Matasnos Forest
Once upon a time... in an unnamed place in the Highlands of the Ribera del Duero, in the Tertiary era, one of the best wine-growing areas in the world was formed for producing quality wines.
Millions of years later, in 1960, the owners of a forest area known simply as El Bosque, in Peñaranda de Duero, decided to dedicate its deepest part to cereals.
At the same time, what is now our Viña Vieja was planted, which has shown us from the beginning that in this winery we could produce wines of the highest quality.
The origin of the name
To make room for the grain, the former owners removed millions of kilos of firewood from this ruined forest. The local residents brought their mules and donkeys to help with the biggest firewood collection of their lives. The overexertion killed hundreds of donkeys but gave life and name to the Matasnos Forest. An enigmatic, unique, hypnotic and beautiful place in equal parts. A different place, but without a soul. Or with hundreds of souls…?
