Description

Sangarida Pico Tuerto 2022 is the most ambitious wine from Sangarida, the Bierzo project of brothers Robustiano and Baldomero Fariña (Attis Bodega y Viñedos). Its name pays tribute to one of the most emblematic peaks of the Montes Aquilianos, the imposing mountain range that protects the vineyards of San Lorenzo del Bierzo.

Made with 100% Mencía grapes from 4 century-old plots planted in co-planting with Doña Blanca between 1901 and 1910: La Calleja (1901), Lombano (1901), Las Tablas (1910) and El Corzo (1910). Vines in vaso over 120 years old located at 600 meters above sea level on sandy-loam soils in the town of San Lorenzo del Bierzo (Ponferrada), cultivated under a strict ecological philosophy without any type of chemical intervention.

The production is completely artisanal: delicate and careful manual harvest, natural spontaneous fermentation without added sulfur dioxide, two-week maceration with continuous pump-overs for a gentle and respectful extraction. Subsequently, the wine undergoes 12 months of aging in new and semi-new 500-liter French oak barrels, which provides complexity and structure without masking the purity of the century-old Mencía.

Of intense and deep purple color. On the nose it is complex and elegant: ripe red and black fruits stand out, along with spicy notes and a pronounced mineral background very characteristic of Bierzo. On the palate it has a lot of structure and leaves a velvety flavor, with great persistence and harmony. A powerful yet delicate red wine, with very good aging potential.

Serving temperature: 16-18°C. Ideal for roasted red meats, hearty stews, game, cured meats, mushrooms, and aged cheeses.
